1979-1989-2023

As promised, here are some additional photos. Unfortunately, we seem to have an abundance of the 1979 production of Albert Herring, but only one press image of Sid and Nancy from the 1989 production.
Fun Facts:
The 1979 show was the Chicago Premiere of Albert Herring.
COT reintroduced the production in 1989 for the 15th anniversary season. It will now be re-staged in 2023 to commemorate our 50th anniversary!
Albert Herring will be brought back to the Athenaeum Center for Thought and Culture’s stage! We are thrilled to return to a venue that is intertwined in COT history.
The Chicago Tribune called the 1989 production "a wonderful piece of music theater, one that seems nearly as fresh in invention today as it must have seemed to that first Glyndebourne audience of 40 years ago."
The 2023 mood board reveals some of the ideas and themes that director Stephen Sposito has for the show. When we spoke with him in February, he told us that the main thing he wants for the show is for it to feel fresh. He also liked the idea of having an Albert with long hair and a flower crown. Another thing we discussed was the significance of color extensively. For example, Stephen mentioned that jewel tones for him represent the characters who fall into the trap of adulthood and do what they should instead of what makes them happy. In comparison, Albert will be in a brighter color representing his journey of finding himself throughout the show.
