COT is so excited to bring Errollyn Wallen, a Belize-born British composer, pianist, and singer-songwriter, who has been named CBE, the highest-ranking Order of the British Empire. This medal is given out to those who are recognized of the positive impact they have made with their work.
Quamino’s Map is about Juba Freeman, a free man who arrives to London after winning his freedom from fighting the British in the Revolutionary War. There Juba is thrown headfirst into British Black Gentry. He reconnects with other formerly enslaved people who struggle to build new lives as free men. Inspired by historical events, the opera sheds light on a forgotten corner of history. Quamino’s Map challenges assumptions of what life was like in the 18th century London for a person of color.
This show is for those, like us, who binged Bridgerton in one weekend, love historical fiction, and has a playlist dedicated to Hamilton.
